The winner of the 2016 Buzgon Davis Law Offices Scholarship is Ms. Charley Darkes-Burkey. Ms. Darkes-Burkey is a graduating senior at Northern Lebanon High School. Ms. Darkes- Burkey is a class officer, a Northern Lebanon Student of the Month, and a member of the National Honor Society. She has participated in track and field, cross country, and Varsity Club. She also participated in chamber choir, musicals, Envirothon, SADD, and SHADE. Ms. Darkes- Burkey has been involved in local community theatre and as a camp counselor at St. Mark’s Kids Camp and Camp Cadet Troop L. She is employed at Timeless Café in Lebanon. Ms. Darkes-Burkey plans to pursue a degree in Pre-Law at Ursinus College.
The $3,000.00 Buzgon Davis Scholarship is given to a graduating senior from one of the seven district schools. The selection criterion includes (a) class rank (the student must be in the top 20% of the class, (b) essay-writing and (3) personal interview. Each school submits its top essay to the Buzgon Davis scholarship committee who then rates the essays for each candidate as well as the personal interviews with the top three finalist candidates.
The topic for this year was IN LIGHT OF RECENT SCHOOL SHOOTINGS, SHOULD CONGRESS ENACT TOUGHER GUN CONTROL LAWS?
Ms. Darkes-Burkey, accompanied by her mother, Ms. Dawn Darkes, was presented with the first installment of her scholarship at a luncheon held at the Lebanon Country Club on May 18, 2016.
