The winner of the 2013 Buzgon Davis Law Offices Scholarship is Mr. Jonathan Lum. Mr. Lum is the son of M/M Stephen Lum and is an honors student and a graduating senior at Northern Lebanon High School. He is president of his senior class, of the Varsity Club, and S.H.A.D.E. (Students Helping & Aiding the Disabled and Ederly). He is a member of the National Honor Society, S.A.D.D. (Students Against Destructive Decisions), Chamber Choir, and vice-president of the Choir. Mr. Lum was co-captain of the varsity basketball team, an Academic All-Star in basketball, a participant in the musical, and a recipient of the Junior Leadership Award. Mr. Lum plans to attend Harrisburg Area Community College to pursue a degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting and to complete his Bachelor’s Degree at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
The $3,000.00 Buzgon Davis Scholarship is given to a graduating senior from one of the seven district schools. The selection criterion includes (a) class rank (the student must be in the top 20% of the class, (b) essay-writing and (3) personal interview. Each school submits its top essay to the Buzgon Davis scholarship committee who then rates the essays as well as the personal interview with each candidate.
The topic for this year was DID THE NCAA HAVE LEGAL AUTHORITY TO IMPOSE THE PENALTIES WHICH WERE IMPOSED ON PENN STATE AND, IF SO, WHAT IS YOUR OPINION WITH RESPECT TO THE NATURE OF THE PENALTIES WHICH WERE IMPOSED?
Mr. Lum, accompanied by his parents, M/M Stephen Lum, was presented with the first installment of his scholarship at a luncheon held at the Lebanon Country Club on May 8, 2013.
